RMHS Dance TeamThe mission of the Rancho Mirage High School Dance Team is to provide a place in which RMHS students can explore the art form of dance in all its various styles while inspiring others to dance in their schools and community. Our belief is that great dancers need great training and must have a strong foundation in all styles of dance. This is why we encourage taking classes in studios in addition to the training received from dance team. Students who participate in the RMHS dance team will be exposed to many types of dance including ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and lyrical, contemporary, jazz-funk, modern, as well as cultural dance forms such as belly dance and African dance. Students will dance in many contexts including stage performances, studio rehearsals, conventions, sports performances, competitions and more. Students will learn dance technique, fitness and nutrition, performance skills, choreographic theory, teamwork, and leadership. They will learn, perform, create, and teach dances. Students will also be expected to excel in their academics. The goal for every dancer is to improve as both a dancer and a human being, and to apply the skills learned while on the team to a variety of aspects of life, throughout their lives.

The Coach |
Currently directing, choreographing and teaching at "The Dance Program Center for Dance Education" in the Palm Springs area of California, Anthony Michael Vega started with humble beginnings at the dance program of his local parks and recreation. Soon after discovering his passion for dance and choreography, he found himself in a rigorous training program there and under the mentor-ship of Kimera Lewis and Ronald Brown of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. With a strong ballet and modern foundation, he began to develop his own contemporary style as well as his own class with inspiration from the many teachers who influenced him. He continued training in Los Angeles and Orange County from studios such as the EDGE performing arts center, Anaheim Ballet and more in all styles of dance. After gaining experience on stage, in film, and in competition, he began a teachers training program in which he developed his teaching and choreographic skills. He was a principle dancer of the Desert Dance Company in Cathedral City and became a lead choreographer for the company soon after. Anthony has also trained and competed with Hip Hop crew Animazing and won awards for his choreography. Anthony will be teaching in Brazil at an annual dance convention this summer. His philosophy is that every dancer has a unique dance style within them and developing that style is just as important as the technical training learned to develop it.
